It will be just the second time that Latvia will host such a high level competition in this Olympic Snowboard discipline, but for the first time – two Europa Cup competitions will take place. Therefore Latvian Skiing Association appreciates this opportunity entrusted by the FIS. Last season, in the beginning of February, Latvia experienced an historic moment by hosting the first ever Europa Cup SBX competition on home turf. After this successful inauguration Latvian snowboard cross fans will be able to watch the best European athletes also during this running season on the course in Ozolkalns, close to the city of Cesis.
And in 2012, it will be Ozolkains again to host the scheduled races. Ozolkalns is located in the beautiful valley of 452km long and very winding river Gauja and is the only venue in the Baltic States where such a high level competition in snowboard cross can take place.
By taking into account the relief of the country it is obvious that the course mightnot be the fastest, but the design will defintiely please all the riders attending the competition.
In addition, the race date perfectly fits in the international calendar as it closes the open contest window between the World Cup in Veysonnaz, Switzerland and the fifth stage of the Europa Cup series which is supposed to take üplace in Kongsberg, Norway, which offers a plenty of flight connections from Riga, the capital of Latvia.
