Pakistanis Build Homemade Chairlift Out of Used Toyota Car Parts
The Wall Street Journal published an article today highlighting the rebirth of skiing in Pakistan's Swat Valley.

In an effort to recreate the resort they once had, last year locals built their own improvised chairlift.
Powered by a 2000cc Diesel engine from a Toyota Corolla, the chairlift can take six people up the slope at a time. The seats are from a Toyota HiAce wagon, which is more commonly seen plying the streets picking up passengers in cities across Pakistan.
The chairlift serves a single steep slope. Locals boast about the perfect powder snow conditions, but the slope is unpolished and makes for a challenging descent.

Разработиха система за електронна библиотека в метрото
/КРОСС/ Американски студенти са разработили виртуална библиотека за метрото в мегаполиса Ню Йорк. Нововъведението се очаква да запълни скучното време, което нюйоркчани прекарват под земята всеки ден. Всяка сутрин и всяка вечер голяма част от жителите на Ню Йорк прекарват средно над час под земята. Най-голямата подземна железница в света, която регистрира над 5 милиона пътници дневно, ще направи пътуването по-комфортно и по-интересно.
Трима студенти по „Реклама" от Университета в Маями, Флорида са разработили електронна библиотека за вагоните на метрополитена. Целият архив на Нюйоркското обществено книгохранилище ще е достъпно във влаковете. Идеята е с доближаване на устройство като смартфон или таблет към виртуалния книжен рафт във вагона, потребителите да получават 10 страници от любимата си книга, предаде нова тв. Така времето на път до офиса ще минава по-бързо, смятат идеолозите на проекта. Авангардният проект все още е в етап на изграждане, но се очаква да стане пример за много други подземни железници по света.

Longest cable car in the world
It is set to open in Venezuela later this year. It is 8 miles long, rises 3,200m and replaces a 4 stage lift that has been shut on safety grounds.
The old lift, at Mérida, was built in 1958 but was withdrawn from public passenger service in 2008.
The ride took about an hour and often longer.
It was the longest run of successive cable cars in the world.
The new lifts replace the original four with the journey beginning at the Barinitas base station in Mérida's Plaza las Heroínas at an altitude of 1,577 m.
There is no skiing at the top but people go for the views and panoramas. Experts have been known to ski from the top but they need a special permit. Some people do go up with skis but they just pose for photographs at the top.
The upper terminal, Pico Espejo (4,765 m), has stunning views across the Andes and the Pico Bolívar peak (5,000m) that is Venezuela's highest mountain.
The first station is a large panorama restaurant, the second a museum, the third will be another restaurant and the upper terminal will include a small café and a large viewing terrace.
The air starts to get noticeably thinner by the third station, La Aguada at almost 3,500m.
Oxygen is available in the stations and cabins.
The new lift has 20% larger 60-passenger cabins with seats for 40 people.
It is being built by Doppelmayr.
